[rebel-builders] Avionics shelf in tail - mounting AHRS unit etc

Post by Jason Beall » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:25 pm

Thanks Ron. That is helpful. I guess you have to calibrate the magnetometer with the plane in a level attitude, i.e. NOT in a three point taildragger attitude?

I haven't actually purchased a system yet. I am looking at the Blue Mountain EFIS one as my top choice. Just thinking I might build an "avionics shelf" in the tail that can hold the magnetometer plus other items such as ELT and maybe weather downlink box etc. I am back there now doing other sheet metal work.

Thanks, -Jason

Jason,

As it happens, I am just now completing nearly three days
of work on the
mount for the magnetometers that feed my AFS EFIS's. I'm
literally waiting
for some Everbrite to dry before final assembly. Should be
done tonight and
then I can fire up the EFIS's and know where I'm going.
Ha.

It's been more involved than I expected... but what else is
new?
