[rebel-builders] dorsal fin length

Post by Drew Dalgleish » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:21 pm

Hi Ron I don't have a dorsal fin and if it makes any difference to you at
Oshkosh a long time ago Daryl Murphy told me it was a bad idea to install
one because the vertical fin is already too big. If you put the ELT antenna
where it belongs now and decide to install a dorsal fin later the dorsal
fin will cover the origional ELT antenna hole when you have to move the
antenna forward. Oh ya I couldn't find any reference to a dorsal fin in my
manual either.

The pros and cons of the FUS-37 dorsal fin (weight, windage, aesthetics,
etc.) are thoroughly covered in the archives. I don't plan to install it
initially, but want to leave the option.

The issue at the moment is location of the ELT antenna. Of course, it should
be as far aft as reasonably possible, but I want to leave room for the
dorsal option. My FUS-37 is ~ 43" long on the bottom flange, which looks
huge. The two queries are:

1) Does the manual cover installation of the dorsal fin and if so, where?
Probably a "duh", but I can't find it. (Can't find my spectacles either.)

2) Is there any mechanical/installation reason the FUS-37 couldn't/shouldn't
be shortened a bit if desired?
