Lowrance uses the Canada Maps software so you can load whatever details
you want onto an SDcard (up to 1GB for my 2000c). In fact the fine
detail is appropriate for hiking. Similar to the MapCreate software that
they use for the USA. Interestingly Lowrance told me that Canada maps
will be replaced by something else in the future and I suspect that
might coincide with the next model upgrade. Now that memory is about as
cheap as the packaging presently included with the disks, it would make
sense to just load it all into internal memory or a large memory card.

GPS question: When I purchased my Garmin 296 a few years ago
it came with only vague details of the Canadian Provinces. Because
I do a lot of fihhing around the Sioux Lookout area, I was forced
to spend an extra $150. for a chip for more detailed information.
Do any of the newer GPS's come with full detail of canada, lakes,
rivers, trails, and streams?

Thank you.

Hi Drew !

It pays to shop a bit ! If we have fly-in Rebels at the next
Builders Meeting, you can likely see an AvMap in action.

The last prices I saw for the AvMap were about $1,400 CAD ...
suspect you can do better with some digging.
Thanks Bob The only price I've seen so far is $1500US.
Drew

Drew,
I paid $1350 for mine and got a $50 rebate so actually $1300 US. I bought it when I was at Oshkosh last year.
Here is one listed on Ebay for $1339 with free shipping.:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AvMap-EK ... rtsQ5fGear
