[rebel-builders] Rebel - slosh - New Question (OLD, actually ...)

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:52 pm

Thanks Bob, now I don't have to give my opinion! In a previous life
time, on rare occasions we used EC-776 in desperate attempts to seal up
a seep and get a B707 or CV-880 out of town. But as you suggest, we
regretted it later.

Craig some of the guys on the site have suggested in the past;
pressurize the tank 2 PSI max (don't blow up your wing!) soap bubble
test the whole tank. Mark the leaks. Apply a low suction to the tank
(don't cave it in!) Apply a thin tank sealant, I thin it down with
Toluoline for this, (Some of the guys don't like this technique, do you
Bob?), and hope it will be sucked into the seams and rivet holes. Clean
off the outside surfaces before the stuff cures. Hopefully the puddle
you put down will diminish in size which is a sign that it is being
drawn into the leak path. Let it cure a few days (70*) or a lot longer
if colder. Re-pressurize and try your luck again.
If it works great, if not use Bob's suggestions.

Dick

There aren't ANY !! DO NOT SLOSH !!!!!!!!

I have seen LOTS of 'slosh jobs' - that had to be opened up
& cleaned by hand and completely re-done !! It WILL peel
off & plug your screens ..... and it'll leak anyway !

If you can find the leak, just go in through the filler neck,
with a small brush on a wire, a mirror, and a flashlight - or just
cut in inspection holes, and seal it properly. Often, the 'brushable'
ProSeal - like honey ... will seal up a small leak.

I'm having trouble finding anything up here to slosh my fuel tank.
Can
anyone offer a suggestion for a good product they've had success with?
Thanks, Craig
