[rebel-builders] Rebel- Motor Mount Bolt Size

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:43 pm

Hi Cris !

The bolts for the 912 mount ARE smaller ......
As I recall, the 912 bolts will fit the mounts as-is - I think they were
1/4" ??? Anyone done one more recently ?????? Jim ??

In any case, you can wait until you get the mount to ream
to fit. I know they're fairly pricey, but I think you'll be a lot
happier, long term, with the 912 - better performance, on
less fuel, with better durability. Just my experience ... ymmv..

I am trying to determine the size of the motor mount bolts to be used. I
plan to use a Cont. 0-200 engine or the Rotax 912. Are the bolt sizes the
same for either engine application? Cris 719R

Remember that I didn't use the Murphy mount for my 912 - I had it custom
made in order to move my engine out 3 inches to get a better C of G and
allow more baggage. I registered mine at 1650 Experimental - not ultralight.

Jim

For the short time you have had your Rebel in the air you have put a lot of
hours on it. I guess it safe to assume that your 3" extended motor mount is
working out just fine. Not knowing what your Empty Wt. and CG turned out to
be? My question is; if I am able to install a Rotax would you recommend the
same set up if my Rebel is certified at 1,320 Lbs?

Certainly - the 3" moved the C of G to 12.75 which I think is just about
perfect when the forward limit is 10.85 and the aft 18.10.
My empty weight is 821. It only made sense to me that any weight added is
usually baggage behind the seats - so the further forward the C of G was
the better.

Good luck - anything I can help you with please let me know.

Jim,

I'm interested in your results with the extended mount and how happy you are with the Rotax also. Fuel prices are sure effecting my decision on what engine to use.
