Horizontal Stab

Post by earl brown » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:15 pm

Hi everybody!

i'm new to the list and have a question i hope someone can help me with.

well, after a rather long "break" after finishing the flaperons, i am starting
on the stabilizer and noticed when i mount the control hinge (ST-25) to the
stab spar (ST-27) the square corners on the hinge piece flair out the flanges
on the spar- is it OK to round the couners of the hinge to better fit between
the flanges of the spar?

thanks for the help- i'm sure you'll hear from me again!

Earl,

Yes. Radius the edges of the hinges so they fit snugly into the ST-27.

Scott & Leere' Aldrich

Horizontal stab

Post by Scott & Leere' Aldrich » Fri Feb 17, 2012 11:58 pm

Steve,
On the top side you already have flush rivets so it can sit on the doubler
with a shim under the part that sticks forward of the doubler. On the
bottom I drilled out two 5/32 rivets that were in the way and replaced them
with flush so it sits there the same. You can not get 25 degrees up and
down, the cable attach bolts will hit the stabilizer attach brackets, can
get more up than down. I think I have 20 degrees up and 15 degrees down.

The following was from Brain at MAM.

Ailerons.....15 degrees up, 12 degrees down.
Flap....max of 25 degrees, with 12 degrees of droop on the aileron.
Elevator....I settle for 20 up. 15 down.
Rudder, as much as you can get allowing 1/4" clearance from the Elevator as
it cycles up and down.

Not sure what guys that are actually flying have??

Just finished the stab. and elevator for our Moose and have a question. The
manual says to put elev. stops on the stab. where the elev. horns will hit
them with 25 deg. up and down movement. With all the doublers and rivets in
the area, where are these mounted???? Do you make a shim for under the
bracket to clear the rivets or machine out the underside of the bracket to
clear the doublers, triplers and rivets? ? ? They don't seem to have a
picture in the manual for this area and could not find anything in the list
files.

Thanks for the help and I know I'll be asking for more along the way.

David L. Tuck

Horizontal Stab

Post by David L. Tuck » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:23 pm

I'm building a rebel kit #009, in building the horizontal-stab, the leading
edge skins came pre drilled and the way the instructions sound, they make it
sound like they are not ? There is only one way that they can go? they have
to go where the holes are!
So in installing them I would just line up the holes and drill from there?
just like in other building such as the rudder and the elevators.
Thanks
Dave Tuck
