After a pleasant week (after Sunday!) at Sun&Fun I went to Rotax 912 school at Lockwood Aviation in Sebring Florida. Two days of "line level" maintenance and the two days of "heavy maintenance". Quite intense but well worth it to me as we have a 912ULS to keep up. Expensive at $800 total but cheaper than a rebuild. These are vastly different from Lycs and Continentals with some ways to damage the engine if not done right.
Lockwood does rent the special tools required and a wealth of information is available at Rotax-owner.com for those using or contemplating this engine.
Rotax does approve 5% ethanol in the fuel and, while not official, Lockwood stated they have had no negative results from 10% ethanol. Of course, that still leaves the suitability of the fuel system in the airframe.
