Sun'Fun comes back...

Post by jean.poirier » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:32 pm

Hello

Just few words of my Sun'Fun trip...

-More LSA than ever including "The Patriot" from Zenith : look as a 701 with the wings at same level than the cabin and no leading edge "flaps", the cowling strait (not "nose up" as the 701) Much better look than the 701 but how is it fly? Look fragil... Usually the LSA area was looking very quiet...

-Less "used parts/junk supplier... a bad thing for a "real" homebuilder...

-I do not have any idea of the real attendance, but friday/saturday were busy, sunday really dead

-Funny "Rebel all together" tuesday night. We should do it twice...

-There was always couple "really new" engines with solid future... but they were not there this year...! In the engine work shop, we had as running engine:

1- A nice firewall foward with a 350hps 365# of torque Corvette LS1 engine for RV-10 (or Moose...) Run smooth, start at the first tour (except 1 day from a vapor lock!) Have a cluth on reduction (have jam one day...?). But the package was clean. I am a bit afraid of some components that have not there place in airplane (but ok on streets) Can be easily change for better quality parts and better design (connectors, fittings etc.) If the reduction prove to be reliable, it will be a strong challenger to the $60 000.00 Lycoming/Continental...

Some "new" rotary... No new diesel, except that a Thorp was equipped with a WAM 120 with 400 hours of fly... It will be an option (on Jabiru 3300)

The 4 hangars where the places the most busy (avionics, new parts, insurance, Lyco, US tools etc)

A bit more commercial every years, but the sun is there, volunters in the different workshops are fun to spend time with them, a lots of airplane, a lot of pilot/builder, I am still enjoying it very much!

Hope to see you there next year ( for my 8th times / 5 as a volunter).

As usual you have probably a lot of fun with my english... but not as much as I had last week! lol
