[rebel-builders] Insurance in US

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:26 pm

Hello Dale,

Below is the contact that I have for insurance on my Moose. FYI, let me
know if you can get fly-off insurance; when I inquired about this some time
ago I was told "No way" by several insurance agents. Maybe there is indeed
a source (hope so). I know you have a nose-wheel whereas mine is a standard
tail-wheel. Perhaps that will make a difference.

It is time to find insurance in the US for the Moose I have built. Do any of

the builders here have any recommendations for getting quotes for the fly
off and then coverage afterwards.. Thanks Dale Fultz SR-033 N269DF

I find AIG insurance to be good for experimental. They didn't require more
than a couple hours in make and model for 1st flight coverage.
I deal with 'Travers & Associates' in St.Louis, MO - Mary Maggio @
800-888-9859. They've covered my Kitfox for 8 of the 10 years since
completion.
The insurance gives me $1 million liability - each occurance. Be careful
about that feature as most give $1 million but only $100K for each
occurance. Somehow I don't like the concept of having 10 accidents before I
get to maximum coverage.

Dale-

I have no experience with insurance for experimental, but I have been very
happy with the rates, attention and service I have gotten for the insurance on

[rebel-builders] Insurance in US

Dale,

I tried to send this from my laptop while on the road, but evidently it
didn't go.

When I needed insurance prior to my first flight of N96CS back in '06 - I
turned to Avenmco (with whom I had other aircraft insured, and with whom I
had hull coverage of my Moose during the build in case of fire or storm. In
spite of their telling me all along that they would insure the Moose, they
refused - but still wanted my other business. This in spite of never an
accident, almost 40,000 total time and well over 6,000 tailwheel.

I turned to Falcon and an agent in Kerrville, TX. I've had my insurance
with them since - in fact just renewed at a slightly lower premium than
before. They insured from first flight. Insurance isn't cheap, but these
people seem reliable. Avemco can go where the sun don't shine!
