I have the same issue with the JDM rims/brakes, but with Goodyear 8.50 tires. Although I don't have actual contact between the brake and tire. I had some correspondence with Jeff at MAM (until he stopped answering my emails) about this. His suggestions were 1) take the caliper over to the belt sander and go for it. 2) increase rotor standoff.
I am contemplating some combination of 1 and 2. I tried to see if I could get thicker standoff spacers from MAM (the extruded section between the rim and rotor) but so far unsuccessful. That would be the best solution, but I think just stacking a couple washers between the existing spacer and the rim would be fine. Another solution would be to custom make an additional spacer if you are a machinist. The problem is that the through bolts will then be to short. I don't have a clue where to get the correct bolts in a longer length. My idea was to counterbore the front of the rim slightly and use the same bolts. There seems to be plenty of metal in that area.
Good luck, and please let me know what you come up with.
Jesse

Subject: [rebel-builders] caliper interference / over size tires
Date: Fri, 25 Jan 2008 09:52:55 -0500
We have the MAM supplied upsized tires on our Elite. They are Airhawk 800-6 and are inflated to 24 pounds. The left one has about 3/16" clearance to the caliper while the right interferes by about 1/4". It rubs on the sidewall about 1/2 - 5/8" out from the rim. I have emailed MAM for suggestions but with the reported slow response decided to tap this large knowlege base as well. Any ideas?
I thought perhaps turning the tire around on the rim. Maybe the profile is enough different on the opposite side to allow clearance. Any opinions as to what a minimum clearance should be?
Thanks,
Ralph Baker
