[rebel-builders] Bunch of Moose rudder pedal questions

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:17 pm

? # 1: Yes, press rp0019 onto rp0018. I have a taper-pin bolt holding these together (label # 11 if I'm looking at it correctly). Took a pic & will email tonight.

? # 2: The washers and cotter pins undoubtedly go with the assembly of the "pushrod" RP-17. I strongly --STRONGY-- recommend you do NOT, repeat --NOT-- install these on the left, or pilot, side. There has been at least one serious accident due to these going over center and locking up the rudder pedals on landing. I know of two other incidents where the pedals locked while taxiing with no accident (fortunately).

? # 3: The master cylinder standoffs are out of 0.125" x 1.8 long (fore-aft measurement) x .8" wide (L to R) x 1" tall. Sorry, I can't remember if they are supplied or not, or whether you make those.

Guys,

For the few of you out there who are building the
stock rudder pedals from Murphy: (oh, and I am
referencing the latest drawings from Chapter 12 of the
manual that can be downloaded from Murphy's tech
support site - dated 21/08/2007)

1) I assume the "master torque fitting - RP0019" is
supposed to be press fitted onto the end of the "slave
brake torque tube - RP0018"? Has anyone added a rivet
here?

2) I am confused on the parts list, page 3 of the
21/08/2007 rudder pedal parts list page. Item 14 lists
qty 40 of AN960-10 and 12 cotter pins MS24665-132? Is
this a type-o? I don't understand where these parts
go?

3) I can't find reference to the master cylinder
standoffs, BRK0220 in my parts listing. Are these to
be fabricated from raw stock, and if so which one?

Thanks, -Jason

[rebel-builders] Bunch of Moose rudder pedal questions

Post by Jason Beall » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:17 pm

Hi Ted,

Wow...thanks for the quick reply.

I think my RP-17 are the new upgraded type from the
factory. They have a bend (guessing 20 or 30 degrees)
halfway along their length. I think this was to
address the overcentering problem?

I will go look on Murphy's website again.

Thanks, -Jason

[rebel-builders] Bunch of Moose rudder pedal questions

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 4:17 pm

My RP-17 have a slight bend in them too Jason. I can't venture a guess why, but there was no service bulletin issued on this critical over-center problem with the brake inter-connect set up. Several folks have installed a 2nd set of master/slave cylinders on the right side (I have pictures and drawings if you want to take that approach). Other folks--me included--have simply taken the inter-connect off and only have brakes on the left, pilot, side. I might install brakes on the R side someday, but for now I figure it's just one more possible point of failure/leak.

Thanks Ted,

I will take your advice on board. I think I may add a
second set of brake master cylinders.

Thanks again and Happy New year,
