[rebel-builders] ANR Headsets

Post by Garry Wright » Sun Feb 19, 2012 3:56 pm

I have the 20-3G Lightspeed and will say that while they are very good
with the ANR turned on, they are not so good as just passive sets. The
clarity of the receiver is marginal without the ANR using the Lightspeed
but great with the ANR. Other headsets present no clarity problems.
These units are very light with relatively light clamping forces and
very soft earpieces -- very comfortable. Like others I often forget to
activate the ANR and struggle for a few transmissions - then waking up,
realize they are not yet on. I believe that a combination of good
passive and good active noise reduction should be in place at a $500
price, but get only good active with this type.

Like other things that people buy, it is difficult to look at one's
decisions and say "That was not the best decision I ever made." In this
case, I have no reason whatever to doubt the units are performing as
well as they are designed, but not as well as I expected.

Drew,

That brings up a point I meant to ask. Do you think that I need ANR when
the longest legs I will fly are about 2 hours? I have never actually flown
the Moose with the "ANR" turned on.

I just flew about 3 hours with the doors off and just the passive portion
of the Lightspeed 25"s on. I did not feel it was too loud.....

Hi,

Does anyone have a suggestion on ANR headsets? I have an old Lightspeed
and need to buy two or three more. If someone has a headset they like
maybe you could let me know. Also the type of engine you have might be
important. I have a M14.
Thanks,
Eddie
I like my lightspeed QFR headsets. The passive noise reduction is so good I
often forget to turn the ANR on.
Drew
