[rebel-builders] Tail Spring

Hi Dave: I noticed some of the earlier kits had an aluminum tail spring
about 1/2" thick. This one works great. I had one on Rebel 192 and radius
the edges for appearance sake. It had nice spring action while still being
very sturdy. If that is what you have, use it - you won't be disappointed.

Hi Dave I have the fiberglass murphy spring and it hasn't given me any
problems at all. I don't think that murphy sells them anymore though. Wayne
O'Shea at one time posted the canadian tire part # and instructions for
cutting down a trailer spring should be in the archives if you keep looking.

Dave,

I had a combo of the fibreglass tailspring and a single arm scott 24B
tailwheel. When that tailspring delaminated, it could not be field
repaired because of the torque the single arm tailwheel put on the
spring. As a result I had to travel 150 miles home by car (loaned to me
by the customs guy at Del Bonita on the Canadian side) and then back
with a replacement. I made up the steel spring that Wayne recommends and
have since changed to a Scott 3200 with 2 arms. I am quite happy with
the tailspring though would prefer it be a bit stiffer than it is. Three
leafs using the Canadian Tire spring are mandatory to avoid damaging the
rudder from below. Four might be better. To get the spring to a shape
that will work with the right profile I found it necessary to bend it
some with an hydraulic press. Otherwise no problem.
