Tach problems???

Help anyone!!! (912 engine)

My tach has gone bizerk. Reading to the end. Changed tach and same thing. Likely a short? Checked all wires and everything fine, ground, live. Wires run to some kind of pick up and continuity indicates approx. 116 omhs, is this normal reading, can't find specs in manual.

We suspect the problem is with the rpm pick up).

Any ideas, leaving for 4-5 days on Tuesday, tach or no tach !!!
