excellent engine and is a very good choice for the Rebel. With 2 of us on
board (as chase plane for Chuck Bailey's first Rebel flight) we effortlessly
climbed at about 1200 fpm at around 90 mph! He easily can do 130 mph and
the engine is smooth, quiet, responsive, and sips fuel. The cowl has a
streamlined contour since the fuel injection does away with the need for a
protruding airbox below. Steve has kept the plane clean and light. and it
has paid great dividends. I think Murphy can get OEM prices for the
IO-240B.
Steve also has a slick Johnson bar arrangement for the flaps that is solid
and natural. He uses split ailerons/flaps. One "improvement" he made was
to increase the travel of the ailerons by locally opening up the clearance
for side-to-side motion of the control stick. This simple fix gives him
significantly more aileron travel which helps provide more aileron authority
and roll control while maintaining the lighter control feel associated with
separate aileron/flaps. I could go on about other "why didn't I think of
that" things he has done, and expect they will come out over time as he
contributes to this forum. His plane is one of the best examples I have
seen that proves by paying attention to low weight and reduced drag you can
get superior performance without massive amounts of horsepower. Steve is
the modest sort, so I felt compelled to blow his horn a little for him.

I went back to my construction notes and confirmed that my wings have
everything that the 1650 wings have except the .063 spars and the extra
aftrib located 6" outboard. Note: I have installed a 3" dia inspection hole
attachof the main spar on the bottom skin to keep a eye on the upper strut
