[rebel-builders] Master cylinder mounting

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Existing brackets for wheels...floor for amphib floats. Just my
HOpinion...but brakes in a taildragger are over rated and can cause
expensive issues. Steering an amphibs another story.

Glad to see you progressing so quickly Jessie!

I am starting to mount my rudder pedals, and remember lots of comments
about
modifying the bottom brake master cylinder mount point to the floor
instead
of the bracket on the rudder pedals. I am wondering how much of a
"preference" mod this is. It sure would be a lot more convenient to use
the
existing brackets. Can someone with the standard setup comment on how well
the system works? I assume the issue with the stock setup is that the
brake
pedal angle at full rudder travel becomes uncomfortable, but is there a
way
adjust that to compensate?
Thanks
Jesse

[rebel-builders] Master cylinder mounting

Post by Jesse Jenks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:08 pm

Thanks Wayne,
I guess I better mount to the floor now then. It will surely be easier now
with the lower corner wraps off. Just wondering where to put the left
bracket though as it wants to go right where the engine mount bracket is. I
noticed on one of your pictures that your pedals are set farther apart than
most. Is that to avoid said conflict? I don't know if I want mine that wide,
could I move them back instead? What should I use to make the brackets?
Thanks again.
Jesse

ps. Thanks for the words of encouragement. It doesn't seem that quick to me,
but it's all relative I guess. At least I have my engine all squared away
now (not hung yet though), so I can focus on building again.

Use the engine bracket...or if need be to get the right pivot height, add a
tab to each side of the bracket for the pivot bolt.
