[rebel-builders] Buyer Beware

Post by JEFF MCMURRER » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Every time I hear of someone getting a "great deal", you better be sure of what you're getting..... it may be more than what you think! Don't fall for "An old lady owned it and only took it to the local fly-in's for breakfast".

Some days I wonder why I don't sleep some nights and other times
it's
presented to me front and center. It's not even my airplane
design, but when
people call me up and say

"I have a customer that got a great deal on a Moose out of
Quebec...it's got
this big round engine on the front...we're looking for someone
that has time
in type to show us both how to fly it."

All is fine at this point and then when you get to...

"it had leaking fuel tanks...so the owner paid a Professional to
install
welded tanks"

Oh really....how were they installed?

"Well it looks like they removed the bottom tank skin and
installed a big
tank....it's suspended on straps like say a Super cub..."

Are you saying the ribs where all removed to install the tank.?

"looks like it"

Is the Wings root rib still a solid .063 piece ?

"I don't think so...I can see the tank.."

Sorry I don't know anyone that knows how to fly one of them things
that is
willing to die....

"OH...maybe we got screwed?"

DEFINITELY...good bye!

AND BOB...if he called you for test flying I hope you were waaay
tooooo
busy!

Cheers,
Wayne

[rebel-builders] Buyer Beware

I just got semi-screwed on an engine deal, so I'm feeling the pain as well.
There are a lot of great people in aviation, but there are definitely some
hosers out there too.

[rebel-builders] Buyer Beware

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Thanks Wayne !

Oh yeah - they're out there !!

I <AM> pretty busy these days - off to London early in the morning
to re-start test flying the Corvette Moose .... that's exciting enough for
me !

And leaving for B.C. on the 16th to fly a new Elite back with the new
owner from Ottawa - should be an interesting trip. It'll give me a chance
to run through the Ramble route in advance ..... :-) Looking forward
to visiting some of the Ramble stops !

This Elite was apparently well built, by an AME, and has all the latest
mods - looks good in pics. Will give me a chance to evaluate the effect
of the smaller elevator horns ... With luck, we'll have a new AvMAP
EKP IV GPS to play with too...

We'll have to hustle home, though - for the Murphy Builders Meeting at
Brampton, on Sunday, May 27th --- see you all there !
