[rebel-builders] MOOSE: Aileron travel

Post by Rick Muller » Sun Feb 19, 2012 12:04 pm

Clarification! I am talking about the push rod that is next to the
fuselage. The interference contact point is the crown that the ball end
bearing screws into and the horn. Is there suppose to be something to
offset the push rod 1/2" away from the horn?

I read through what I could find on the list regarding the controls for the
moose/2500. My manual indicates that the angle between vertical and the
horn for the torque tube is 50 degrees. Apparently there has been some
variation here, others indicated 54 degrees. When I move the stick left and
right I see interference between the push rod and the horn of the torque
tube as it pushes the horn forward. I do not get full travel!

The next issue is what is full travel? I cannot find in the manual what the
travel of the aileron should be? What are others seeing?

[rebel-builders] MOOSE: Aileron travel

I used a long bolt and a bunch of washers to offset the head of the rod end
from the control horn.

This info may be of use to other builders so I'm forwarding to the list.

Mine is set at 50 degrees. I'm actually glad that I did it like that
instead of zero degrees or straight up and down. I installed my fuel lines
after I did the aileron connections and if it was straight up and down there
wouldn't be room for the fuel lines and my fuel shut-off valves which are on
the outside of the fuselage rib. They are bulkhead valves so the lever is
on the inside. I also have electrical wires and tubing for my pitot coming
in from the wing root, then inside the fuselage, back to the rear door post,
down under the floor and eventually up behind the panel. The control horn
would get in the way of that stuff too if it wasn't up at 50 degrees.

Mike,

What angle did you install your horn (the one at the wing root by the
fuselage)? Old manuals have 54 degrees, less old manuals have 50 and the
chapter 12 on the Murphy web site indicates zero degrees. This is all
relative to vertical. So if you did zero degrees, in the neutral position,
the horn would be straight up and down. I am guessing yours isn't zero. I
am currently at 50 degrees. If it were straight up and down, I think there
would be plenty of clearance. The Murphy site chapter 12 (tech support
section) also indicates up and down 12 degrees of travel in the aileron and
some other useful info.
