That's just about the way it was done on the Subaru installation with a
computer fan. If you watch Harbor freight they have them in various sizes on sale
for about $4 USG periodically. May I make a suggestion though, instead of a
heater core (really flimsy) that's why you'd smell coolant in you're car, use
an oil cooler? Same principle but more rugged.

One thing to consider if you have lighter plugs is the electrically heated clothing such as used by us motorcycle types. No plumbing, no leaks and left home in warm weather. Mine is Gerbings brand. Strongly recommend the optional thermostat. Draw is 10 amps total for the jacket and pants at 12 volts.

This has been mentioned before but there are electric clothes available for motorcyclists that are not bulky (about like quilted underwear) and work well. My Gerbing's brand shirt and pants draw 10 amps at 12 volts max. If you go this route get the thermostat as well. You do need to wear them over light underwear so the electric suit does not directly contact skin.
