[rebel-builders] What prop?

Post by Walter Klatt » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:42 am

That's definitely more of a cruise pitch for the 150 hp 0320, and would be
better suited to faster planes than the Rebel. I think if you had it
repitched to 56 for wheels that would work better. I have the 74 X 54
Sensenich for my 150 hp 0320 and it works fine for the amphibs. I get 2500
rpm on take-off and it maxes out at about 2720 in WOT level cruise. But if
it was on wheels, it would definitely be over revving in cruise with that
pitch.

Prior to the Sensenich I also used the 72" wide tip 3 blade Warp, and never
got the cracks on mine, although it was not high time. I played around with
pitch and definitely ran into a compromise between take-off and cruise with
different settings. IIRC, the best pitch I found was 2450 on take-off and
which maxed out at 2650 with WOT. Again this was on floats. The Warp did
slightly better on climb and max speed than my Sensenich (despite the
latter's higher WOT RPM). But the Sensenich seems to be slightly better on
take-off.

Subject: [rebel-builders] What prop?

Hello All:

This is my first posting concerning N83MR, a fine flying Rebel with a
Subaru
2.2, Ross gear, and 3-blade Warp Drive prop.

Never could solve the cooling problem , so decided to install Lycoming O
320
(150 HP) with Sensenich M 74 DM-0-58 prop.

With this installation, I find that I cannot produce full power. The
static
obtainable is 2200 RPM. I have gone through required trouble-shooting
guides
with no results.

I suppose I made a bad prop selection and need another prop to solve this
one.

I'm operating off of 1100' strip at 800 SL, so no problem in and out. Sue
and I like to fly to the beaches of NC and to the major airshows once or
twice a
year, so standard to cruise is the pitch I would like.

Could someone tell me what they think is the ultimate choice for a prop
for
the Rebel with this engine?

All the Best,

John in NC

PS: For anyone who may have a project, the FWF I mentioned, is for sale at
Goodwill prices. Give me a call.

[rebel-builders] what prop?

I just got the McCauley prop of my C-150 repitched this week, cost me $180
in Anchorage, and only $90 if done during an overhaul.

John,
We are building an Elite in Sumter, SC. If your prop is a Sensenich I
believe they can repitch it 8" total over the life of the prop. Last time
I checked it was about US$200.

Hi Ralph:

I should say neighbor. I'm at the Tokeena Air Park, near Anderson/ Clemson.
We can share experiences in person, if needed.

Best Regards,
