Bob Patterson

Hi Randy !

You don't have to worry about the stabilizer - it's designed to fold.
You just have to disconnect the elevators, and undo one bolt on each
side, and the stabs fold up to touch the fin. You will want to put
some foam in between, and strap them securely ....

It will have to be very well secured for that long a trip - you can
get a LOT of damage on a long road haul ! If you look back in the
archives a month or so, you'll see some good advice from Wayne on
packing for shipment ....

The weather should break within 3 or 4 weeks - might be worth
the wait ! Both Phil & I are willing to fly it home - ---- and it sounds
like Garry might be up for it too ! ;-)

Hi Randy
That sounds like the so called "26 footer" and mine fit that without the
rudder or stabs. You might have to remove spinner and prop. I did not
have those on and think it might be tight with them. That truck has
wheel wells protruding up from the floor so I put it in tail first.
Wings went in resting on the flaperon brackets and tied to the walls.
Couple of chunks of wood to block the wheels from moving sideways.
You'll need lots of rope and of course blankets for the ailerons etc.
You'll need two 3/8" wrenches for removing the tail and flaperons. Two
7/16" wrenches for the flaperons. THe tail is straightforward but the
middle hinge point of the flaperons should have a cotter pin in there.
Remove it, then disconnect the control push rod, then insert wrenches
and twist the wrenches AND flaperons differentially. THe wings will need
two 9/16" wrenches and at least two people. Add needle nose pliers and
philips screwdriver and wire cutters in case you have to cut any wires.
And maybe a padlock for the truck. Expect to spend a half day loading
the truck.

I'd also consider getting a better truck than U-haul has and make sure
it is diesel. I guess the "air suspension" might help a bit but not much
with such a light load. Think I got 1.7 km per liter from the gas
powered 26 footer!

Hi Randy congradulations on your new plane and I'll second what Ken said
about Uhaul. Their trucks are mostly junk that shouldn't be allowed on the
highway. I sure wouldn't want to drive halfway across the country in one
even in nice weather. Since your plane is airworthy it would be a lot
easier and much more fun to just wait for some good weather to fly it home.

I second that on u-haul, when I got my rebel and moved it with a uhaul the
parking brake stuck on and I had fire behind the transmission, when it
finally broke down 3 opp cruizers and a fire truck showed to in response to
several 911 calls about a truck on fire driving down hwy 25, 8 housr later
repair guy showed up and I made the 1 hour trip in 9 hours and not even an
apology from uhaul, I hate them
