My experience with the SR-2500 weights was about the same: hours of building
temorary hinge jigs, adding weights at just the right poit, buying a scale
etc. only to find out that it took about 4 times the supplied weights to
bal.
Murphy answer was that just put in the weights that were supplied and it
would
be enough. The only modifacation I made was to reinforce the weight attach
point with a doubler.
