G'day Guys 'n' Gals !!!

Rick Harper here in OZ again ... ( long time no hear - I hear you say
! )

I have a....l....m....o....s...t...... finished rebuilding our REBEL -
after my "less than graceful arrival" about a year & a half back ..... (
also, my dad passed away 6 months ago too - and this STOPPED any work on the
plane for over 5 months , while I sorted my mum out :o(

I couldn't afford to purchase one of Angus McKenzie's excellent cuff kits
... so I made a set of my own - ( with the serious help of an aircraft
designer friend of mine here in OZ )

I've also bought 2 sets of Vortex Generators - which is why I need your
help / advice.

Can any of you out there please give me your opinions / findings as to
WHERE the BEST placement is for VG's on :

The wings
The stabilisers
The Tail / Rudder

PICTURES would be really nice too !!!
Failing that ..... accurate descriptions & measurements ?!?

BTW : I now have a cuff on the leading adge .... slightly "bigger" / more
substantial than Angus' design !

Many Thanks Folks !!!

and ALL the BEST for CHRISSY to you ALL from Wendy & I

Rick Harper
"Biggus"

PS : I'm sending THIS e-mail as I literally walk out the door - to spend
tonight & all of tomorrow working on our REBEL ... (so I may not get to see
any replies until late Thursday night (my end - "down under")

Post by Rick Harper » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:31 am

Thanks Nige !

My work on the plane came to an ABRUPT & very ungraceful stop yesterday ....

I was fitting the new screen - (which I have managed to crack by the way :o( :o( :o( ...... so I'll have to order another one when Greg Gordon orders his fuse' kit soon

I was standing on several stacked milk crates (ours are a molded plastic box - that kinda interlock (sortof)) .... and I went to step back onto the next one & that's the last thing I remember ....

Woke up in a pool of blood & the ambulance arrived shortly thereafter - (thanks to the guy who was inside the plane - holding a spanner, helping me )

6 hours in hospital, lotsa stiches in my head ... and I don't feel real flash at present - the doc says it'll take a week or so to "feel normal" again

Funny aint it !?! .... I manage to bend the plane & don't get so much as a scratch ..... but I end up in hospital while workin on it ! ... Ha !

Happy new year guys 'n' gals !

[rebel-builders] Re: VG Advice

Post by Bill Maxwell » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:34 am

Longford is one of my two closest townships. The village of Perth is the
other. Wish I had known you were down here, I haven't seen you and Wendy
since that day VH-REB suffered that engine problem that forced you to leave
Wendy at Holbrook. How long ago was that now - 3years at least, I suspect.

Ouch Rick, a not at all pleasant experience. Pleased to hear that things
are on the mend though. Does the Biggus tag have any association with the
fall?

I can appreciate the balance problem. I have had a recurring ear infection
thing over the past 9 months that also has disturbed my balance. Slowed my
hangar construction down considerably but I now need to get it finished
before the winds return with the equinox.

Looking forward to hearing more once you get REB back in the air.

Hello Rick,
Just back in Sydney after two weeks at the farm. Sorry to hear about your head. Are you sure you fell or did Wendy take to you with something big. I'm your mate so you can tell me the truth; I won't spill my guts!!!! May we all have a second opinion from Wendy??????.Now if it was not Wendy, have you been sniffing those solvents I recently gave you???

Kind regards,
Greg. G

Nope ..... I'm LARGE & my name is Richard -(Dick) .... AND being an avid Monty Python fan - most people call me Biggus ... (short for "Biggus Dickus") - I trust you are familiar with the Life of Brian camedy film ?!?!?

I can appreciate the balance problem. I have had a recurring ear infection

No probs ... I started her up today - first time she's run in 18 months WOO WOO WOO !!! :o)
(I just have a single page list of "fiddley things" to sort out _( which will take about a month I reckon :o( ... & then she's ready to rock 'n roll !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o)
