Sir,

I am somewhat confused about the correct tip counterweight to use. If the
total weight for example is 20, do I put 15 in each tip or 7.5 in each tip.
Thanks.

Which aircraft are you speaking of here? Is it the Elite, SR-2500 (I'm
guessing one of these) or the Rebel? S/N ?

To follow on this, in the instructions for the Elite (#583), they talk
about balancing the Elevator and seem to show this being done WITHOUT
the spade/tip skins in place. Has anyone experience with this? I would
suspect this may have an impact on the balancing calculation.

How is it really done?

Thanks

Dave R

I can speak from experience here.. If you are building the Super Rebel,
you only need to add the 3 weights that are included in the kit. I
spent a couple hours balancing, and working out how much weight I
needed, only to find that the kit only comes with 1/2 of what I
calculated. Upon asking Murphy about it, they stated that the weights
weren't as important as they had originally thought, and to just use
what came with the kit.

Could have saved me a couple hours labour, and the cost of going out and
buying a scale if they had told me this in the manual!

This may or may not be the case for the Elite, or Rebel..

As for how much weight to use if the total is 20.. That would mean you
need 10 in each tip to balance, therefore 7.5 should be installed in
each tip.

Thanks Dave,

I have a 2500 also. I previously built an RV6A and I can tell you without
reservation that their manual is complete and everything was well engineered
comparitively. This project is fun, however and will give me the pickup
truck for backcountry work here in Idaho. I guess that I will install the
weights that they include with the kit and play it by ear from there.

Thanks again,

Darrel
