[rebel-builders] Site down ???
[rebel-builders] Site down ???
Back up, thanks for mentioning it.
Some information on this problem... this has been something I have dealt
with for years now, and have not been able to get any support from the
developer. He kept pointing out that others did not have this problem,
including the company web site. I thought I'd finally get some help when I
discovered the company web site hung up the same way, and he had to follow
the same steps I use to recover... but nothing was ever done about it. Well
last week somebody finally figured out the problem, pointed it out to the
developer and he said Eureka!, this has been a problem since way back when
and we never knew it! I was a little annoyed by this at first, but in the
end, we now know what the problem is, and eventually it will get corrected
for good. The developer says the issue is going to take some major changes
to the system, so won't be a quick fix... but a fix will be forth coming.
As for why it happens on the builders site so much more than most others...
it's apparently because of the large archive database that is being searched
so frequently. When a search is performed, the socket connections to the
web server are held open until the results are received from the database.
I ran some tests last week and it seems to usually take about 13 seconds to
do searches of the archives. A typical web page only takes a fraction of a
second. Somehow the socket connections are not being properly released like
they should be after being held open for this long a period, and once the
limited number of sockets all get used up... no more web site! (yeah yeah...
blah, blah, blah... I know)
