COWL OPENING

Post by BILNEWKIRK » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:56 pm

BOB P, - HOW MANY SQUARE INCHES OF OPEN AREA DO YOU HAVE ON THE COWL BOTTOM?

AFTER 130 HOURS I STILL HAVE CHTs THAT WILL EXCEED 450 IN A CLIMB.

COWL OPENING

Post by Aurele Lavigne » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:56 pm

Bob, would that apply to your 912. I have always found my operating temp.
to be on the high side, especially as the weather warms in the summer. My
opening is not that large at the rear bottom and I can barely get my hand
through the opening, so maybe 3-4 inches at the widest point. I'm going to
take a polaroid and send it on as soon as I can so we can compare.

On another note, I rec'd my 3 blade Ivoprop and have got the wiring in but
no time to install and adjust the prop as out flying every chance I get.
Will give everyone a report one once I do get around to it. By the way, the
whole installation is relatively simple, even for me. Looks like the most
time consuming part is installing spacers to set the max. cruise and
take-off pitch.

Happy flying Bob.

Not sure without measuring - I believe it's at least 220 sq. in.
of outlet - comes a long way forward. Far enough that I can do an oil
change without removing the cowling....

Sorry I can't give more detail, but I'm rushing out to the
airport to get ready to Ramble !!!

We'll see you at Oshkosh, or ask me again in a month, when
we get home :-) :-)
