[rebel-builders] Moose pics up

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:20 am

Hi Brian !

Last flight, only getting 4,500 rpm, climb was 2,000 fpm !!
Yahoo !! Cruise has been in the 135 - 140 KT range - but there hasn't
been any time to fine-tune that ... only 1.5 Hr. total so far,
in about 6 flights. :-( Fuel consumption seems pretty light,
especially compared to the M-14P... as is the oil useage ! ;-)
Ideally, once the prop governor is sorted out, we'll get 5,000 rpm
wide open, with cruise down about 3,200 - 3,500. C of G worked
out pretty well, and empty weight is under 2,000 lb, so she'll
haul a fair load. The fiberglass amphibs (Clamar) are ready
& waiting for installation...

This IS Brian Robinson's setup - it's just a PRE-production
prototype, with a re-drive that's shorter than the SeaBee one,
but longer than the final Moose drive WILL be ... Brian is
doing a lot of work toward making a complete FWF package.
It won't be 'super cheap', but it sure will be well engineered !
As you know, Brian is very conservative, overbuilding, and DE-rating
for reliability, as well as using as many off-the-shelf parts
as possible, for ease of maintenance over the long term.
Brent is the pioneer - he designed his own nosebowl, cowling,
and cooling system, complete with fans. Pierre's Moose is next,
benefitting from Brent's efforts - and it will have
the full revised package... hope to fly it in the spring.

The full package will have a great cabin heater, AND
the option of AIR CONDITIONING !!! :-) I think some SeaBees
have already done that.

Will keep everyone posted on progress - not much left to
go wrong ! ;-) :-)

Bob - that looks great. I'll bet you get some good performance with that
cowl; it appears to have good aerodynamics. Once you get the kinks ironed
out I would be very interested in your actual performance numbers; vertical,
air speed and fuel consumption. What PSRU did you use and did you say it
was injected? I think that's what Brian Robinson is using.

All the best - and keep up the good work!

Hi All !

I've posted a couple of pics of Brent Davies' LS-6 V8 to the
FILES section 121. It's not painted yet - good thing, as there
are mods to the cowling and nosebowl in the works already.

Flies great !! And we WILL get the engine sorted out soon !

Site problem - tried to post a classified ad for a Rebel tail
kit - can't get to the classified section ! Looks like just a
bad address - likely because of the change to a separate server...
Sorry to find more work .. .... Thanks Mike !

Yes Brian's SeaBee has air...a VERY comfortable place to sit in his rear
"living room" seat on a 100*F day! ;O)
