V8 carb stuff

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:20 am

I discovered something interesting while messing with my carb on the
workbench. If I tilt the carb towards the secondary float bowl fuel runs
out the primary fuel outlets in the carb throat. And if I tilt it towards
the primary float bowl fuel runs out the secondary outlets. It doesn't take
much of a tilt to cause this to happen. If I lower the level in the float
bowl it takes more tilt to get the fuel to run out the ports. I wonder what
this will mean when pitching up or down in flight. At least I found that
there is not enough tilt mounted on the airplane on the ground to cause this
to happen. I was kinda hoping that it would since that would explain why I
have had so much trouble with rich mixture and flooding. Now I still don't
know why I have that problem although I'm learning some new things about
throttle and mixture settings that seem to make the engine start and run
better.
