[rebel-builders] Door Lock

Post by Charlie Starr » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:04 am

Send me your mailing address and I'll send you the lock and key that I got
with my SR kit in '97 - I believe it's the size you want.

I have lost the barrel out of my Elite door lock. Jack Wiebe was kind
enough to send me his lock, but apparently Murphy has changed the part,
and the new one does not fit the cutout in my door. I wonder if there
is anybody out there who has not completed their door who would be
willing to do an exchange. My kit number is 587, bought in early 1997.
The sleeve of the lock I need is chrome plated and is 11/16" long from
the base of the threaded portion to the end. It has plated keys. The
sleeve of the lock I have is nickel plated and is 5/8" long. It has
brass keys.

[rebel-builders] Door Lock

My kit is 771 and it has brass keys, but I already have it fitted. I mounted
mine in the lexan side window because I'm hinged at the top. I don't know if
your replacement would work for me at this point?

[rebel-builders] Door Lock

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:04 am

I have Super Rebel kit 044. I didn't use the MAM supplied door locks. I
also have a bunch of similar door locks all keyed alike that I did not use.
Anybody wanting any of this stuff need only send me your address and it's
yours - no charge.

On the same subject, I found some bolt locks at an RV place that have a very
low profile on the outside and fit a one inch box built around the one inch
square tubing on the Super Rebel door very nicely with a very minor
modification. And I got three locks keyed alike for $20 at a local
locksmith. Very secure and looks good. If anyone is interested I can
upload pictures and a part number for the locks.

Hi Al,
The lock I have is the 11/16 long version, from the base of the flange to
the bottom of the threads, with a .740 dia. this is the portion the lock
rotates in.
If you haven't gotten what you need yet, send me your address and I'll get
it to you, n/c.

Charlie, Curt:

Thanks for your offer. However, I was able to get one that fits at Home
Depot, so that'll save you the bother and expense of shipping yours.
Many thanks again for you offer, however.

Al

[rebel-builders] Door Lock

Guys:

Thanks for the prompt response. It sounds like Charlie has what I need.
I will check around the local hardware stores tonight, and if no joy
I'll go with your generous offer, Charlie. BTW, where are you located?

And for those of you who may not have done so already, it sounds like
some Loctite on that central bolt is a good plan. My lock barrel is
somewhere in eastern Ontario!

Al

If message is for Charlie Starr, I'm in the FL panhandle - but will be glad
to ship the lock to wherever you are (within the Western hemisphere) -
that's what the builder's net is all about.
