Any thoughts on whether it is worth/necessary adding the
dorsal fin on the Rebel if flying on floats? What about on
wheels prior to going to floats?

In talking to Robin the Dorsal Fin does little to the flight
characteristics of the A/C one way or the other.

Walter,

Some people think the dorsal fin looks better - that's about it.
There
is no physical need for it...

It's like electric flaps, and control wheels .....

(Cessna did it, so it <must> be good !!) ;-)

Hmmm, I think I like the looks of the Rebel better without the dorsal fin
and
really don't need the extra weight. The only reason I would have for doing
it,
would be to aid longitudinal stability with floats. Bit of a shame, though,
for
me, as I have already built and painted it, and was just about to do the
final
riveting. You guys are really sure that it doesn't help float flying?

I've only had my Rebel on amphibs since Aug./96, but I sure haven't
noticed any problems with directional stability.

OTOH, if you've already got it done - go ahead and put it on ! It
shouldn't hurt (other than the weight, and a small increase in
weathercocking tendencies).

There are several Rebels on floats near here WITH the dorsal fin,
and several WITHOUT - no problems either way .....
