CONGRATULATIONS!!

Good to see you've got a handle on it, sounds like it's going to work out fine
once you get to explore the operating envelope. Relax & have a good day
sailing.

Cheers,

Dave

New head gaskets in place. Reassembly complete. Engine test run. Once I
got the timing set right, running and sounding good. Ran it a few times for
ten minutes or less each time, checking and adjusting things. No oil on the
head stud nuts. In ten minutes the engine would have overheated before and
I would see oil on the stud nuts by now. The coolant temp was never off the
peg and no sign of pressure yet. Oil temp at 165 F. EGT at 1300 F. Timing
30 BTDC at 2000RPM. The 160 F thermostat is back in place. I think the
coolant temp didn't show anything because the sensor is in the thermostat
housing above the thermostat and it hadn't opened yet. Non-ideal spot for
the sensor but the only spot left for it. Should have drilled and tapped
another port in the manifold while I had it off. What I expect to see
eventually is the gauge to jump to 160 when the thermostat opens and then I
should start to see pressure. Noisy valve rocker somewhere on one side.
Decided to call it a day and let the engine cool down, look for the noisy
rocker and adjust, then go for some long test runs. Sailing tomorrow so
that'll happen Sunday. I'll report back then, but everything looks good for
now!
