[rebel-builders] GM LS engine - motor mount/PSRU

Post by Bob Patterson » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:00 am

Hi Britt !

Have a look at Brian Robinson's setup - it's well proven, reliable,
and he has already mounted the engine in a Super Rebel/Moose. One is
ready for test flying - should be able to give you some news in a few
weeks, and another is to be installed soon. Mount is done, new composite
cowling is in the works - other details complete. If you want a
complete, proven V-8 conversion, nobody has the FLYING HOURS on the
engine that Brian has !

forward setup that he quoted at $28,500 including the cowling, psru,
radiators, computers, mount - mostly everything - He will not sell the motor
mount separately.

Before committing to an LS2 / gearbox instead of the M14P for your Murphy
Super Rebel - 3500, I suggest you consider, in some depth, the information

and especially http://www.epi-eng.com/CNV-Evaluation.htm

.......Price and availability on a motor mount.......

Price is time + materials. Typical is in the $5,000 range for a
one-of-a-kind. I'd need detailed, accurate drawings of the firewall,
cowlings, and the supporting fuselage structure to which the mount attaches,
as well as your specification on the longitudinal placement of the
powerplant. If my analysis showed that the fuselage structure is
insufficient for the loads, I would decline to go further and charge you
only for time already spent.

..... and a Mark 15?

Castings are in process. Availability probably late this year, in view of
current orders. Price depends on ratio; targeting $8500. Don't know for sure
until finished parts are in hand.

Sincerely,

Jack Kane

[rebel-builders] GM LS engine - motor mount/PSRU

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:00 am

I paid $6,000 to have my mount built locally and I even participated in the
design and supplied the steel. Firewall forward, I have ~$36,000 in mine.
The Vesta V8 package sounds pretty good at $28,500 (although it probably
won't be 450HP like mine if I can ever get the bugs worked out).

Brian

[rebel-builders] GM LS engine - motor mount/PSRU

Post by Brian » Sun Feb 19, 2012 11:00 am

I've corresponded with Brian Robinson of several occasions over the past two
years. I've found him to be extremely helpful and responsive. Last I
checked he had over 1200 hours on his Seabee. That's pretty impressive. I
really liked his simple, simple, simple, approach. I've always been in
search for a better alternative than the 1950's technology that is available
in conventional aircraft engines.

I don't get any commission - but I don't have a qhealthbeauty.com website
either!
