Hi Guys

I'll pipe up here for Ralph as I think he's away on a road trip for a while.

If I remember correctly Ralph & Sue have an RV air box so it might not be the
same setup as you (Mike J) are thinking about. The photo I took when I
visited this spring does show a K & N sticker so you are correct about that
part.

Don't know if this moves us any further forward but.......there it is!

Hi Mike,
I don't have the number handy, but Challenger aircraft is making them. I
think the Rebel is the same as a C-150 filter, made by Brackett.
I think I posted on this once before, it might be in the archives. I'll
try and remember to dig it out of my logs today.
In answer to the question of why are they better, I got 75-100 rpm on
static just by changing the filter. It might just be my setup, but I think the
0-320 needs the better airflow that the K+N provides. And they last forever.
Just clean and reoil.

I just had to add my opinion on the K & N filter,, they don't last forever
if they are cleaned once they are not as efficient as they were when new.
Does anyone know what happens to paper when it gets wet? Same thing with the
K&N if you look at independent reports and not K&N reports on it you will
find they are not the answer.
Just thought I would add my two cents.

Nothing lasts forever, and horsepower requires $$$. After years of using K&N
on race cars and race motorcycles, I can assure you that they do make
power over alternative filters. BUT, if they are abused (get wet) I would
consider replacing it with new. Air filters were never designed to run in water,
so every time you ingest the liquid, replace the filter! On the race vehicles
that ran on wet dirt tracks, we used a foam cover over the filter to stop the
big chunks of wet mud ... maybe a good call when flying in the rain?

I am by no means an expert on this subject, (so please don't have anyone get
mad for my writings) I am only trying to pass along my own experience with
airfilters,,,Check out this link for one business that used K & N

I can give you numerous test done by independent people, I have nothing
against K & N but I too am in the racing world, and I realize 800 HP on dirt
is different then in an airplane. Been in dirt racing for a long time K &
N certainly doesn't filter like their test show they do. Since switching
filters we run an entire year without engine problems. All I am trying to
say is just because they aren't afraid to charge for there filters doesn't
make them good, some of the people that advertise for them get paid, some
get paid and don't run them. There is alternatives out there please do your
own research with the amount of money you have in your engines. I am done

Hi Drew, Actually the air filters are multi layers of cotton, (not paper) of
different textures or weave as some call it. Well the problems start when
cotton gets wet it shrinks sometimes as a cotton shirt does. The layers
don't conform to original because the different weaves shrink at a different
rate then the other layers and that's when the problems start.
The technology has really advanced with the foam filters, if on
floats I would really look into them, as an all around filter.
There is a lot more finer details to the cotton filters but that is
kinda a condenced version of the research we have found with them. Hoper
this gives you a little more insight to the high flow filters... Dale
