Rebel tailspring mount

I have the tail end of my fuselage all clecoed together including the FUS 30
doubler, and the TS-1s are bolted on. My FUS 30 doubler hangs down a little
on the bottom. I made it from flat stock instead of buying a second FUS 30,
and the way I made the initial bends made it so I can't get it sucked in at
the bottom rear. There is about a 3/16 gap between the FUS 30 and the
doubler where they wrap under the tail post. It looks pretty good everywhere
else, and I figure I will stick it on with proseal and it should be bomber.
My problem though is that it will interfere too much with the TS-2 when it
gets bolted to the TS-1s. I have read in the archives that it's OK to
relieve the TS-2 somewhat, but it would be more than half it's thickness in
my case. There are 2 options that I see. First would be to make spacers
which would be about 1/4" to go between the TS-1s and the TS-2. Second would
be to trim the doubler under the tail post where the TS-2 goes. Obviously
option 1 puts the whole assembly lower than it would normally be. Option 2
would be simpler, and would keep everything in it's normal position, but
would it weaken the doubler? The other factor is the angle that the
tailspring will mount at relative to the fuselage centerline is being
effected. Is it normal to have the straight part parallel with the skin, and
what is the right amount of offset? I realize that the nylon doughnut at the
front can be modified to change the angle as well.
