Congratulations Charlie! As for the CG... go with the actualy
measurements... don't worry about what anybody else has published, you're
airplane deserves it's own numbers. And I wouldn't worry to much about aft
CG... have you seen some of the photos of SR and Moose loaded up and ready
to go?

Mike

In completing the wt & bal for my SR certification, I see that the manual
gives arms for rear seat passengers as 46" and baggage as 49". I would
assume
that the rear seat arm means the center of the rear seats, and baggage
arm
the center of the compartment. Of course, if this is true, the baggage
compt.
would be under the seat. My actual measurements show the rear seat to
have a
49" arm and the center of the baggage compt. at 89". Am I missing
something? 89" compared to the published 49" could make for some serious
out of aft
c/g loading!

Incidentally, SR N96CS (SR#065) received its airworthiness certificate
today
(after nearly 8 years of building) and should be in the air this week.

Congrats Charlie....a HUGE milestone. Can't help you with the arm numbers .
I had a link somewhere that showed people/seat c of g based on their height
weight and seat back angle but can't find it. Someone else may remember what
it is.

Cheers,
Wayne

Mike Kimball

[rebel-builders] SR wt & bal

Post by Mike Kimball » Sun Feb 19, 2012 10:26 am

I'm not trusting any piece of paper for arm locations on my plane. I'm
going to pick a datum (maybe even some place in front of the airplane for
all positive numbers) and measure everything myself. Knowing me I probably
found a way to build my SR a couple of inches shorter than it's supposed to
be. :-) One cool thing that happened recently is that I attended the Local
EAA Chapter Annual Banquet a few days ago, bid $70 on a certificate to get
my plane weighed properly at a local FBO, and won! That's more than 50% off
in Fairbanks. Yay.
