[rebel-builders] sanding paint off of fiberglass

If anybody has an M14 mount on order or recently received one, you need to
check with the factory on the status...
Both the mounts in the Chilliwack shop don't fit. On one the mag is too
close, but on the other you can't get one of the mags on!!!
Doug took it back and after the usual agrivation, they agreed to cut and
reweld it.
Also, don't bother with that little plastic fish tank pump for the clean
kit...just order a Facet from Aircraft Spruce.

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend the correct procedure to sand
paint off of fiberglass? Is it ok to use a power
sander? If sand paper is to be used, what grit?

Also, Nigel or any of the other guys in the UK: Does
anyone know of a decent place to get a PFA type
resprayed without braking the bank?

SR131 is coming along. Doors are finished and now
working on the windows. At this rate I have her flying
by retirement. For those that know me, that's a LONG
way off!

Hi Rockhound!

You just sand it off. It's not fun, but it's not hard. I'll tell you that
wet-sanding is not recommended, but I'll also tell you that I've done it (a
lot) with no ill effects. On particularly poor fiberglass components, water
will penetrate pores and cause problems with subsequent painting. Don't
sand into the weave of the glass. If you're planning on re-painting (why
else would you sand off the paint, in the first place...) you really only
need to create enough tooth for the new paint to hold. I understand that
there are some chemical strippers, that are acceptable on composites, but I
can't help ya there.

Finish before your retirement??? Without a doubt! The real question is;
will you finish it before I retire???
