Sun'Fun... Need Oshkosh Ideas

Hmmmmmmm.... I seem to remember a fellow named Jean, from Quebec,
who was carrying a few glasses of beer to help drain that tanker !! ;-)
Of course, there were MANY Murphy builders there putting in a mighty
effort to bankrupt the EAA's beer budget ! :-)

Come on guys, we can empty that puppy, with some help from the
guys from Down Under, and England & Germany ! :-)

on. This is ONE GREAT BASH, with a tanker of free beer, & food ! :-)

Tried 'em all - I think the best experience comes from driving in
and camping on the grounds. Camping under the wing is rough - the
facilities are nowhere near as good as in the campground, and you
are stuck with mostly overpriced junk food. Hotels (book a year or
2 in advance !!) are really stiff - the Super 8 was $189/night, last
time we checked...

If you drive in, you can get a good spot under trees to tent,
with camp store & showers nearby, and run into town for good
restaurants if you want a change. Also for laundomats ...

There's lots going on at night, or just socialize with neighbours
- it really adds to the experience. Sun n Fun is even better for
night life !! :-)

Thanks Bob...deal done !

We plan to try and get a flight out of Manchester Thursday, get the hire car
and stopover enroute and get there hopefully late Friday the 21st. All
subject to space on the flight, so it could be a few days later.

We'll get the gear we need early on in our journey, and look forward to
seeing you all there. Can you book a plot in advance in the camp site ? Is
there a "Murphy" corner to go to ?

Hi Nigel !

Camping is strictly first-come basis - no reservations, and no
special Murphy area. Folks are friendly everywhere !! :-)
We all check in at the Murphy booth, leave locations & meeting times.
There's usually at least one Murphy builders get-together - sometimes
at the beer tent near the entrance - and, of course, the International
Party ! :-)

Cruise around a bit - you can often find a good spot under the
trees. The shade is great on the really hot days ...

I'll check in with the MAM stand as soon as we arrive and get a plot. We'll
look for trees ! Beer tent sounds a great idea, but might have to skip a few
gatherings (or make them short visits) if there is a restriction on my 13
year old son being present - not sure about US laws on this - over here it's
OK if he's having a meal, or the landlord is happy with it (of course no
drinking anything too fizzy !). We'll sort it out when we get there.

I know this probably isn't fair, but the best place to camp is at the
seaplane base. The only short coming is you're supposed to have a seaplane there,
and the busses stop running by 20:00. I've never not been able to get a ride
back from someone, the shower lines are short and the trees give great shelter
from the OSH thunderheads. Camp fires any time.The best is seeing your Rebel
floating in the frog scum. Or maybe the flying to OSH. Or meeting the other

When the Aussie crew couldn't drain it, I began to think that it was one
of those bottomless tanks that I'd heard about...

When I discreetly asked one year I was told that it was actually not
EAA's beer budget but rather that the entire International night was
provided by the Hilton Hotel there...

We plan to try and get a flight out of Manchester Thursday, get the hire
car and stopover enroute and get there hopefully late Friday the 21st.
All subject to space on the flight, so it could be a few days later.

We'll get the gear we need early on in our journey, and look forward to
seeing you all there. Can you book a plot in advance in the camp site ?
Is there a "Murphy" corner to go to ?

Look forward to seeing you there ! We have bought tents, when we
flew in - you're right - it will definitely be cheaper & less hassle
than bringing one along ! You can pick up a fairly roomy tent at
Wal-Mart for under $100 ... and sleeping bags & cots too ...

You can ship them home as freight, or maybe by mail afterward.
One night in a motel would cost more !

The suggestion to shop on the way is a good one, although there
is a super-size Wallymart in OSH, and they have a lot of camp stuff -
IF you get there early - like on the Friday BEFORE the show !

The only thing there can be hassles about are campfires - one
year we saw some guys on the flight line who started a campfire
UNDER THEIR WING !!!!! Needless to say, Security was there in
a flash !! :-0

If you didn't last time, BE SURE to head to the International
Tent & register - & find out what night the International Party is
on. This is ONE GREAT BASH, with a tanker of free beer, & food ! :-)

and camping on the grounds. Camping under the wing is rough - the
facilities are nowhere near as good as in the campground, and you
are stuck with mostly overpriced junk food. Hotels (book a year or
2 in advance !!) are really stiff - the Super 8 was $189/night, last
time we checked...

If you drive in, you can get a good spot under trees to tent,
with camp store & showers nearby, and run into town for good
restaurants if you want a change. Also for laundomats ...

There's lots going on at night, or just socialize with

neighbours -

it really adds to the experience. Sun n Fun is even better for
night life !! :-)

Scholler. Camping is "first come, first served, no reservations".

Correction: It can get hot, but I pack a fan! The local Walgreens (or
whatever) will have a HUGE supply of ten dollar fans that week! When it is
steaming in the dorms, it is also steaming in the campground. They have
some airconditioned rooms, but they are probably all spoken for by now.

Still very much in the planning stage, but thanks for the offer. Possibly
need to get a car anyway just in case we need to get out and about a bit
when we're there - and perhaps drop my wife off with some friends in Lake
Forest on the way North.

If you're that close however I'd (we'd :-)) love to drop in and see your
project if that's possible ?

Not sure what day we will arrive, but possibly the Thursday, so I'll be in
