I'm building SR#029 and just starting the wing skins. At this stage I'm
going to Countersink the leading edges and may do the entire wing after
I see what's involved. I've made up a neat tool that should make it go
quite quick. I took a bolt that
fit the end of the pheumatic rivet gun that MAM sell, drilled a 1/8"
hole in the centre thru the head and shaft, mounted in a drill press,
then using a large "C" clamp as a tool rest used a file to machine the
head to the same shape as the male dimpler leaving a couple of flat
spots on the sides of the head to allow tightening with a wrench. Then I
machined the threaded end to the same shape as the internal part of the
gun tip. Tried dimpling a few holes and I can move along quite fast.
(who says you need a fancy milling lathe) Have also ordered an
adjustable CS tool to do the stringers and spar. With these I think I
can do up the wings in short order. I've also used this jerry rigged way
of milling for other projects with great results. Good luck!

Warren, we too at one time thought about countersinking at least the
leading edge (and maybe more)
of our SR (003)for appearances and any performance gains, but upon further
disccussion with Bijan (former head of technical services) at MAM we were
persuaded that countersinking the stringers would weaken them. Maybe you
should consult Kerry (new guy) at MAM before proceeding with countersinking.
Good luck,
Peter & Monica SR003

Just for the record countersinking and dimpling are not the same thing,
Countersinking involves removing material and is generally not
recommended on metal less that 40 thou. I was getting ready to send a
response saying you were nuts to consider countersinking until I
realized you are interchanging the two terms incorrectly. To make a
quick dimpler I used the 1/8 rivet head from a hand riveter (that has
the same threads as the pneumatic gun) and had a friend with a lathe
shape it accordingly
