Deburring wheels..and other ramblings!

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 2:29 pm

About every 5 or 6 years it seems I let my "stubborn guard" down and try
something new! First it was trading up my cordless drill (that I was more
than happy with) for a "whinny" air drill back in '96. Next was the greatest
thing since sliced bread...trading in my snips on those long cuts for a 4'
pneumatic shear. Then the trade of the home made clamp to end of table alum
brake for a real 8 footer brake...then the jump to a 12' pnematic shear I
picked up at an auction for those over 4' long cuts required from long 12'
sheets..... that I was back doing with the snips (or worse yet a cut wheel
trying to do 1/8" for skis) and then a 12' brake as well just to cover all
the bases.

12+ years now and I've been more than happy filing all those edges.... with
a couple quick swipes with a fine 6" bastard file. Then this Dale guy twists
my carpal tunnel arm and sends me a medium deburring wheel to try out. Well
I got tired of working on the f-n-laws floats this afternoon and spent a few
minutes modifying my bench grinder to be sheet friendly. Mounted the wheel
and using the "slag" guard modified it with slots to guide the alum sheet on
the pull through.

Left me scratching my head again as to why I've been so stubborn to change.
The cats meow...THANKS Dale! Wayne

Deburring wheels..and other ramblings!

Good for you! Wish you were closer I'd be over borrowing all those fun toys
er... tools.

And BTW, they make small ones for die grinders (air tool) and they are the hot
ticket for deburring those unending burred sharp edges on the flap/ail front
ribs. They fit in the gaps and with the flick of a wrist (well, sort of) you
can make them smooth as those greased landings you're alays braging about ;>)
Put that file back in the toolbox! 3M EXL, 2S fine @ 1/4" x 3" is what I use
and I expect Jean (right??) has something just as good in his line too.
