LR Tanks - Pt. 2

Post by ravc1 » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:47 am

Jeff (i.e., R743),

Congratulations on completing your Rebel, I can imagine it is an exciting
period when one achieves this goal.

I am aware that the LR tanks will reduce the usel load when full. However, I
interpret their presence and use in a more dynamic manner. That is, if you
need the extra fuel and are not conrend about the reduction in weight loading
of the airframe then all is okay. The main reason I posted the LR tank
question is the individual that stated I should not build them seemed
unrealistically negative regarding this issue. I could not see anything wrong
from an engineering perspective preventing a person from building the LR tanks.

My passenger list is not small but it is well within the weight capacity of the
Elite (and probably the Rebel). However, you must also realize this is a
tentative, or worst case, list. I am consdering the Elite as my initial
involvement with a powered airplane. The genral reason for a powered airplane
is owning one would make it easier for my wife to visit her family. The
complication with all of this is that while I would like to build a small plane
that will meet our needs I do not want this effort to jepoardize my ability to
own or build a larger, more appropriately sized airframe. My current goal is a
late model Cessna 180 or a 185 (Nice machines!). However, it may also turn out
to be a radial SR 3500. Only time will tell.

Thanks,

Rick
