Alaska Trip

Post by Ted Waltman » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:31 am

Folks,

My family and I are planning a once-in-a-lifetime trip to and around
Alaska this June & July. I've created a website to chronicle this
adventure. While the website still has more work yet to be
accomplished, it is getting pretty complete.

http://www.i1ci.com/alaska

I'd appreciate feedback you might have on any aspect of the site. I'm
working on the "Tool Kit" and "Camping" sections this weekend; any input
you have regarding tools and spare parts that you'd recommend I take
along is much appreciated.

I'll be on wheels. There aren't any (to my knowledge) places to land a
float plane here in Colorado, so it's just not practical for me to get
floats. In fact, I've never, ever, seen a float plane at any airport
here in Colorado!

If our planned route takes us anywhere near one of you, let me know; I'd
welcome the opportunity to stop by and say hello. I have about a
hundred things to do on the plane and such to finish getting ready. I
had grand plans to paint the plane and finish the interior in January or
February. Seems things kept getting in the way of that, so after we
return that's tops on the list...

Thank you!

Ted Waltman

Beautiful web site Ted... sorry to see you wont be stopping in the "Golden
Heart City" (Fairbanks). Would have loved to see your plane and chat with
you a bit.

Ted;
You could "camp" In my hanger, complete with running water
(shower),the first night out plus I might buy supper or if is too early, just stop for
fuel and lunch. I would like to see your plane. I am located at Columbus
Montana (6S3) 35 miles West of Billings.

Ted,

Forget Banff. It is closed to all but emergency traffic. Same with
Jasper. Your best bet on entry to Canada is to clear customs at CYBW
Springbank - just west of Calgary. Of course you might clear at Cutbank.
Springbank is controlled and customs needs pre-arrangement but it should
work well. High River - 30 miles south of Calgary has lower fuel prices
and ME but no customs.

Watson Lake has a camping facility at the airport. Very nice with those
tiny delightful strawberries growing in the short grass.

Looks like a very interesting trip. I did part of it from Calgary about
1991.

Hi Ted !

GREAT web site !!! Sounds like a good trip, too !

Will send along some "stuff to bring" notes from previous
Rambles - might help....

I totally sympathize with the delays finishing the airplane !
I never dreamed it would take me FIVE years to get my Rebel
painted and on amphibs, finished the way I wanted !! BUT -
we enjoyed several Rebel Rambles across the country, and I
wouldn't trade those memories for ANYTHING !!! :-)

Enjoy the flying NOW - the fiddling can come LATER !!! :-)

If your not busy I would stop up and check out the plane. If you have stuff

Thanks, Brad

I've talked with Ted a couple of times and so far he is pretty much on
schedule following the route on his website.
http://www.i1ci.com/alaska

He is in Otter Cove south of Homer right now. He should have some
interesting stories on his site when he gets back.

I know he has seen Larry in Montana, Ryan in British Columbia and a couple
of the guys in Anchorage and is still planning on trying to see you guys in
Fairbanks.

His new engine is running well. He has had a few tail wheel "issues" that
he will fill us in on when he gets back but nothing to stop his trip.
