If you get any water/condensation the alcohol will separate and go with
the water. This is why they recommend using water and adding the
suspect gas (in a jar) and seeing if the visual water level increases.
I agree with Bob, Shell is the only company that at least advertises
that they do not have alcohol in their fuels. I have tested other fuels
and not found any alcohol. I too use Shell Gold a lot. I don't really
need the octane but like the idea that at least I have premium Mogas.

As I understand it the frequent temperature changes from ground to
cruise and sitting around for long periods have a tendancy to make
alcohol separate from the gas. I suspect the risk is small but if that
happens you can get large slugs of pure alcohol into the engine and
substantial or total power loss. I think that is the reason that all
mogas STC's prohibit gasohol. Now if politicians could only understand
that it takes more than a litre of oil to make a litre of alcohol (which
has less energy) instead of listening to lobbyists for the corn growing
industry...
