torque tube travel & notices

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 5:40 pm

This is a sore point ! I know there have been big changes for the
better in Tech. Support (Brian Godden is now in charge !). We hope that
sending bulletins is moving up in priority.

I know that one of their big problems is that folks move, or sell
their Rebels, and the factory loses track. It is very discouraging for
them to have over 30 % of a notice mailing returned because of address
changes !!

Everyone - especially if you bought a partly-built kit - PLEASE
write the factory (Tech. Support), and give them the serial number,
engine, etc. AND your new address, telephone number, and email !!

While I'm on the soap box :-) .......

The factory would REALLY like to improve the web page, and is
looking for photos of all Murphy aircraft, both as incomplete projects,
and completions. The new 'projects' page only has a dozen aircraft !
Please send photos to Dave Walker - JPG's are OK, too, but they prefer
to scan them there to suit the page. I hear Dave is thinking of having
a draw every month for a T-Shirt, or coffee mug, from the names of
builders who send in photos !!

The aircraft don't HAVE to be all painted up - ANY photo will do !!

Also, if you send completion photos to Kitplanes magazine, you could
win a radio or GPS - besides, let's show everybody how many Rebels there
ARE out here !!! :-) (I get bored by those RV shots ... )

Thanks guys !!

Who knows Bob, no one gets updates to the manual other than people that buy
the newer kits! I should know, I have 5 manual sets on my book shelf!!!!(no
updates received for at least 4 years - not even the float fix bulletin and
I'm the guy that tried to get this one going in the first place!))

I thought the manual had been changed long ago on this one !

Rich,

If you look closely at the instructions, they do show to leave the nut off
the contol coluum end. I didn't like the idea either (along with many
others
Jack W. etc.), so cut 2 short (3/16" long) pieces of 1/4" I.D X 5/16" O.D.
steel tube and put one directly above and below the ball in the rod end.
This will allow the rod end to swivel more on the ball and allow full
travel
of the stick.(and allow you to lock nut both ends!) I know Bob, yours has
been threading in and out for miles and miles, but this is an easy fix and
sooner or later that aluminum tube ends threads have got to get tired!!

Also, if you want all your rod end areas to look cleaner and have more
clearance to pinch points! Use a AN970-3 Penny Washer drilled to 1/4",
instead of the spelled out AN970-4 Washers. The -3's are the same diameter
as the rod end to retain them, as opposed to the -4's that are away
oversize.

When I built my rebel I found that with both lock nuts tightened on the
short
torque tube from the main controll tube to the first belcrank, the
elevevator
travel was restricted. I asked tech support (Francis) about this and he
said
remove one of the lock nuts. Now when thw stick is used for eleveator
controll
the movement is in the threads on the bearing end. One of the Rebel Rouser
builders has the same problem and has been told by three a&p's that this
is
not acceptable. Any comments?
Rich
