Post by bscheube » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:27 am

hello all,

I have a question on the doubler ru-411.
It says in the man. to cut in half etc.
and tuck the flange between the bottom rib and the rudder skin. Then do the
same to the other side. Does this mean tuck the flange of 1 piece under the
left side of the rudder skin between the rib and tuck the flange of the other
piece under the right side of the rudder skin between the rib and overlap the
2 (on top of each other).then put the horn (ru-105) on top of this (4 layers
1:Rib 2: 1st doubler 3: 2nd doubler and finally the horn ru-105) sorry but
kind of hard to explain. thanks for the help.

Bob, that is correct. However it is a good idea to slide both of the RU
-411's forward so that their side flanges also will rivet to the rudder spar
as well as that bottom rib. Not necessary if all fitted but it just makes
sense to pick up the spar too if you can.

Thanks Scott,
I have not permanently attached the doublers or horn yet so I can attach to
the spar as well.

Mike Davis

ru-411

Post by Mike Davis » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:27 am

Hi Bob, I would wait to rivet the horn on the bottom of the rudder until
after you have the gussets on the control horns... otherwise you end up
pulling the 2 3/16 rivets on the bottom gussets by hand, and even then it's
a real tight fit.
