Does anyone know is there supposed to be conduit on the fast build Moose
wings for the wiring??? I have e-mailed Murphy several times no answer.

Hi Jean !

If you run the wires up the wing strut, they can then go behind
the spar from there to the wing tip - you are past the fuel tank at
that point.

It's best to run the wires down the strut (with quick-disconnects
at both ends) along with the pitot lines, because they then come into
the cockpit down at the bottom, in front of the cage tubes. It's a
LOT
easier to run them from there up behind the panel, than trying to
thread them along the wing root, around the cage, and down !!

I've used the clear plastic tubing like the fuel guages (Canadian
Tire) - it's flexible, so easy to thread in, and you can see the
wires.....
hope it isn't PVC ! :-)

Bob Patterson

wiring...

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:01 am

Hi Dale !

The later fast builds had black plastic flex tube (automotive wire duct ?)
installed in the wings. If it was there, it'd be pretty obvious - they had
some pieces of masking tape on the ends of the ones I saw, and some
heavy twine running through.

Since you have such a low number, it's possible they hadn't thought
of adding a wire channel yet. Shouldn't be too hard to add, as that bottom
skin has to be removed for control installation anyway ... and you'll
likely want to run the wires down inside the strut anyway.

wiring...

IF the wing's built, closed and has no conduit in it...Rebel you can fish a
conduit thru the wing since all the LE ribs are "open". The Moose/SR has
lots of closed ribs so whether Darryl likes it or not (not sure if this is
fact) stick a tube thru the small D in front of the fwd spar and call it a
day.

Cheers,
Wayne

Sounds like most of us had the orange loom in ours. So we need to figure
out what is the best way to do it after the wing is built?

For the guys suggesting this being a set of low number wings the wings were
ordered and built in the last 6 months. So I would suppose they should have
the conduit in them. Dale

wiring...

Post by bransom » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:01 am

FWIW on my Rebel I took Wayne's suggestion, bought the thinnest wall 3/4 AL
tubing and made that as conduit in my LE section. Saved the $$ of shipping
long pieces by ordering 6' lengths and splicing. Made little tangs to hold
the tube and riveted to every other rib. I spose seeing Bob's post I might
have saved time and just used the clear plastic flex tubing in the LE. Don't
know why, but somehow I just want to put my wiring there instead of the lift
struts. Will see what I'm up against running the wires down door
posts ...eventually. :)

wiring...

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:01 am

If you are using wing tip strobe packs you will only have a few wires anyhow
in each wing. VERY easily run in thru the gap at the fwd wing
attach/windshield gap...as is the pitot tube 1/4" line. Other options are
the way I did mine with a quick connect receptacle in the cabin root
(FUS_27) and a plug on the wires... as I have strobe pack in the airplane.
Wires then go back to the rear door frame bulkhead..down and around under
the door sill and up to the panel. The strobe pack is behind the right float
point bulkhead so those wires go to there. Many ways to do it and all IMHO
are far better than the misery of dealing with wires and tubes running down
the lift strut.....and drilling holes in your lower corner wraps to bring
them into the cabin.

Cheers,
Wayne
