Service Bulletins, dual MAMs

Post by bransom » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:01 am

I picked up a 1995 project (with 94/95ish MAM) and bought the newer MAM for
whatever advice, improvements, help it might provide. Using it has helped a
little, but it also reminds me of an early ultralight cross country trip
where I got sort of lost by using an FAA sectional and a county road map --
two different scales, etc made things darn confusing. So with the building,
I use the MAM that came with my kit as primary, and the newer MAM as a source
of possible clarification. Then if in doubt, I ask the experts, right here!

It seems a bit sloppy that Murphy no longer shows service bulletins that are
now in newer MAMs. Old bulletins would have been so easy to leave up and
referenced to whatever MAM they were against. Even in the newer MAM, there
is nothing to show what items had gotten there originally as bulletins.
Theoretically, there could be some important change blended into the new MAM
and missed by someone buying a used plane or earlier project. I asked Murphy
how this was handled a few months back and never got an answer. I guess it
is obvious enough now that people buying used kits or planes need to read the
newest MAM.

Service Bulletins, dual MAMs

Ben,

I am in the same position. My Kit is 93 ish. I also purchased the new manual.

Before I start a section I read both old and new. usually problems are
highlighted when I don't have the parts (or different #'s) that are spelled
out in the new manual.

So far everything is going well with the help of the people on this site.

Enjoy.......
