Hi Bill !

Welcome to the list ! Glad your kit arrived OK !!

My 2 cents - go with the Polyfiber Epoxy primer that Murphy originally
advised ! It's a bit pricey, but you get a good bond that will last the life
of the Rebel - and it's easy to work with. You only need to do the joints &
rivets..... brush it on before joining, and assemble while wet. Dip the
rivets before inserting, and you'll have lots of corrosion protection.

The epoxy fills the gaps in the joints, preventing moisture entering,
and glues the joints together, adding strength. It can be bought in Toronto,
or from Murphy, or Aircraft Spruce, in the US .... lots of sources !

Don't worry about the large surfaces - the 6061 is MUCH more corrosion
resistant than 2024 ! You can always spray in Northern Shield later, as a
fog, if you want permanent protection for the large surfaces.

Hi Bob,
Good to hear from you. I received my kit all in one piece but am missing a
few parts. Could you please give me a complete list of extra parts you
ordered for me re the Ontario mods? The list below is what I think we needed
so if you could check it out and let me know it would be much appreciated. I
received some of them but not all.

- kit/skylight (what should be in the kit?)
- St-28 (Fin Stab Front Spar) 2 required on reg. kit. I received 4. Do I
need 2 more?
- Float Attach Kit ( what is in this kit?)
- Fus-30 ( tail skin wrap .032 ) I received 1. Do I need 2?
- Did we order heavier box tubing for the door frame?

By the way, I went with the EP420 & Ep 430 as you recomended. I was able to
pick it up at Goulet Aircraft Supplies in Winnipeg. I am just waiting for an
air drill to come in so I can get started.
I was also talking to Steve Couper at MAM re missing parts but wanted to
check with you first as to exactly what I needed.

New Builder Rebel 767R

No idea what you/Bob ordered....but note that you need FOUR ST-28's to build
per the manual (not 2). One for each tailfeather section (left stab/right
stab/fin) and the spare one is for the seat belt attach bulkhead in the
center of the cabin floor. If you want to do the door sills with it you will
need THREE more. One full length for each horizontal section and the third
to be cut and used for each sloped section of the door sill.

Easiest way to do the FUS-30 doubler is with a second one..but can be done
with sheet stock as well with a bit more work.

Float attach kit is two extra round corner bulkheads, two Fus-42-1's and
some RV1410 and RV1619 rivets.

Cheers,
Wayne

Bob Patterson

New Builder Rebel 767R

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:58 am

Hi Bill !

Sorry for the delay - been travelling, visiting, eating, & gaining weight !!

Hope you still have a copy of the order I faxed you. If not, I can send it
again ...

In addition to the kit, with the fiberglass tail & wing tips deleted, (since
you'll be using Dave Fife's improved tips), I ordered:

1 pair of skylight doublers (joggled ring pieces to go inside, around the
skylight opening - support the Lexan)

4 EXTRA pieces of ST-28 - these are 'Ontario Mod' parts, to replace
the bottom & angle door frames - there should be <3> pieces in the
standard kit, as well, for the tail (The left-over ST-30's can go under the
baggage floor, and inside the re-made (to .032) ,or doubled, FUS-26's,
and to stiffen other areas.

They may also be supplying extra ST-28 for the firewall brace between the
top engine mounts - part of the factory "Float-Fix Mods" .... in that case,
there are 4 on the standard kit, and you should get the 4 EXTRA ones we
ordered.

Re-making the 2 FUS-26's in .032 is another "Ontario Mod" - you might want
to add a 4 x 4 sheet of .032 6061 aluminum to your order if you have no handy
source - it always comes in handy for doublers ...

Also handy for stiffening some fuse sections is 1 extra wing stringer -
- cut into 6 ft. lengths to reduce shipping costs.

1 EXTRA FUS-30 - another 'Ontario Mod' part - to double the tail wrap
section - trim a bit at front (see photo in archives) - should extend far
enough forward to pick up a few rivets in the triangular side piece.
This is <in addition> to the one supplied with the kit, as it goes over it
as a doubler, to stiffen this area.

1 Float attach fittings kit - 2 bulkheads, 2 tabs, and some rivets - all
stock stuff

If you received any FUS-10 corner wraps, you should ask to exchange them
for FUS-70's (same shape, but thicker - and stronger.)

Strange - I <ORDERED> you a chemical kit, including EP420/430, Tube Seal,
and Metal-Sol ---- did they say why they weren't shipping it ?? You will
need the Tube Seal for inside the tail spar tubes, but you could use plain
acetone instead of the Metal-Sol as a general cleaner/degreaser ....

You can drop me email directly at: beep@sympatico.ca so we don't
clutter up the email list ....

Let me know if there's more I can do !
