Moose gross weight mods?

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:49 am

Tacked a 1000 lbs on top of the design weight... for his registered gross
weight!! Stuff that gives designers insomnia!! I'm sure Erikson knows what
he's doing... but based on design lowers the allowable g loading by almost
25% ie from 4 to 3.1 operational (6 down to 4.7 for ultimate)...but then
again the air is lighter in Alaska according to the FAA based on the
modified rules for certified stuff in that state. Considering what was done
to take the moose from the 3000lb SR to the 3500lb Moose I'd have to see
some major changes the structure to be comfortable with 4500lb daily useage.

Cheers,
Wayne

Warren,

Excuse me for jumping in here, Paul Erikson and I discussed using yokes
last night similar to the Cessna 185 setup. He has made some similar setups
on the throttle quadrants too. I don't have the web site here but you want
to do a search using his name and Moose and should show some pictures of the
Moose. If you would like to compare notes I have his number but you can
find it on the web site. He's put Alaska doors on the one that is finished
and float doors on teh pilot/copilot doors. Paul is in the Anchorage area.
Cheers!
Chuck

The only gotcha to that is there was also a Vne increase with the Moose for the
more powerful MP14 engine. I've often wondered how much of the mods were for
the gross weight increase and how much for higher speeds.

Are the published Moose G numbers ulimate or operational? I've never been quite
sure.

Moose gross weight mods?

Either way you look at it...yah still gotta question it!
He's got the more powerful M14 and adding 1000lbs. It's also only 5.7(not 6)
ultimate so now only 4.4 and operational is now only 2.9 !!
