Moose Planning

Post by Chuck Holton » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:49 am

G'Day.

Some of you have already received emails from me about me considering a
Moose project. I live in the Seattle area, I'm just getting back into
flying
after raising a family and now want to start my next childhood.
Hopefully
that will include a Moose. To date all I have done is collect
information on
options. In the week or so I hope to go up to Chelliwick and do a face
to
face with the folks at Murphy's and then may swing back by Surrey and
talk
with the lads at Gator.

I mentioned in my emails that I would appreciate any suggestions from
those
that have gone before me, pitfalls and gotchas. If you live in or around
the
NW area and you wouldn't mind me swinging by I'll stop at Starbucks on
the
way. Initial construction will be in the garage, but I'm looking at
buying a
home in an airpark near by with a grass strip. The property has a
hanger so
it will have a good home, with two near by beaver ponds...true story....

If you have any suggestions please let me know.....

Oh everyone sees my email address and assumes I'm in Florida.... the
grandkids are there now, I'm just a Buffett fan!

Cheers!

Chuck

Hi Chuck,
If your up for a ferry ride to Vashon you can check out my Moose with an IO
540. There is another Moose at Bremerton with the M14 ready to fly any day,
Kirk McCarty owns that one. There is also a set of Montana 3500 amphibs
here that you can take a look at.

Al,

I may do that, one of your neighbors, George, squeezes me into a cub to get me
trained up enough to get back into the air. I like the field over there, a bit
bumpy on the taxi way, but I love it.

If you talk to Kirk, would you see if he's in the mood to show his bird off?
Thanks for responding!

Cheers!

Ryan,

I'm coming up there the week of the 20th. I'm visiting Murphy's and there is a
Rebel for sale somewhere near Abbotsford that could be converted to a Moose.
My wife approved the visit, saying how much trouble could I get into up
there..... she didn't know me when I was stationed with the CF as a Yank at
North Bay or Comox.....

Thanks for your response!

Cheers!

Ha!... I don't even want to thing about how much work that would be. I think
you're best bet would be to buy a Moose kit, and then you could use the old
Rebel for all the little bits and pieces you need along the way!

Moose Planning

Looked into converting my Super Rebel to a Moose when MAM first came out
with the kits. The wings came out great ( except for the sealing the %%^#!@
tanks) and didn't want to rework them. I can't remember the numbers except
that it would be expensive, take alot of time to modify, and would add alot
of weight to the useful. If I were going with a MP 14 I would of done it
tho. I liked the way the Super Rebels flew and didn't want to take a chance
getting something I didn't want.
