Garry Wright

new arrival

Post by Garry Wright » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:35 am

Garry Wright - single adoptive parent - announces the arrival of a 12
year old brawny new member of the family. Born in Chilliwack, BC in 1992
with a weak heart, he migrated to Ontario, eventually ending up in the
care of Dr. O'Shea in Penetanguishene. A heart transplant and
rehabilitation program followed along with strengthening and other
programs designed to allow Brawny to live up to potential. Completely
rehabilitated and moving to Alberta, this new family member is equally
comfortable on land or water. Gail choses to distance herself from this
adoption for the time being, thus explaining the single parent thing.
She'll warm up later I'm sure. See portrait in archives. Note the official
government designator for this adoptee. C-FOKM. It sort of exemplifies
the bush pilot persona. Travel west will be in the next few weeks we
hope - weather permitting.

Walter Klatt

new arrival

Post by Walter Klatt » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:35 am

Hey, Garry, congratulations. Nice to see another Rebel amphib out
west here. If you don't find enough water to fly around Calgary,
hop over the rocks into BC where we can show you some really
great spots that were created just for the Rebel.

Walter

Hi Garry,

You will not be disappointed in your choice of planes. The Rebel is a great 2
place amphib and STOL plane on wheels. It's a simple and well behaved plane
that is easy to fly, has great performance, good looks and hauls lots of gear.
We hope to hear from you often on the list.

Bruce

Bob,

COPA insurance says I have to have 20 hours dual with a qualified
instructor for the Gold policy. That's about the time required to fly
FOKM home. Are you licensed as an instructor for seaplanes? If not do
you know someone willing to do this next week who is?

Ryan Mowat

new arrival

Post by Ryan Mowat » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:39 am

Do you have to have an instructor or a just a comercial pilot with over 250
hours. Some regulations allow comercial pilots to do instriment training
and float ratings. If you need an instructor here in langley that is
excellent - Bealles is his name.

new arrival

It appears that a commercial pilot with 500 hours and 100 hours on type
(whatever that means) is fine. I think type means amphibs in this case.
An instructor rating is not required. It is also possible to get special
approval for someone with a private but lots of hours on type for the
purpose in some cases. Haven't tried that yet though.
